East Coast

Road Trip

sunny

Ahhh haaaa!!! So crazy Canadian (Elizabeth) and I booked a van and left Melbourne to head up the East Coast. First we hit Phillip Island and saw the blow hole at The Nobbies (big rocks where native birds nest and home to the Australian fur seals) . That was fun as the wind was so strong we could hardly stand and dot sprayed on a bit. After that we drove round the coast a tad and watched the surfers at Flynns Beach. After that we drove to Wilsons Promintory (National Park). Stopped to watch the most fantastic sunset over the fields and arrived at Wilsons Prom in the dark and attempted to find a spot to park up for the night.

Day 2
We drove throught the park to Squeaky Beach (the sand honestly squeaks as you walk on it!). Pity it was a really overcast day but still the place was stunning. On to Lakes Entrance to pitch up at a camp site (only as we needed power to charge our phones and batteries). Ahhh and the hot showers!!!

Day 3
Left Lakes Entrance early and drove upto Eden passing through a stunning rain forest. Stopped in Eden for lunch and a swim (not much surf happening here that's for sure but the sun was shining for a change!). Passed through Bega (famous for its cheese making and found a remote farm for some wine tasting...only a drop for me as I was driving). Heading for Narooma for the night and found a beautiful sopt on the cliff in Dalmeny overlooking the ocean. This is the good part....We saw 3 pods of dolphins swimming past!!!! It was so beautiful and they came so close to the shore that the few surfers saw them up close.

Day 4
Off to Jervis Bay....I've longed to see this place for at least 2 years and I'm so excited!!! It was absolutely out of this world. The sand at Hyams beach and Chinamans beach is so white it will burn you in 15 minutes. The water is so clear you could see tiny fish swimming at the shore. Decided to park up for the night in Booderee National Park part of Jervis Bay. We picked the perfect spot right beside Green Patch beach (unfortunately we couldn't see the beach at this point as it was again dark).

Day 5
However....come the morning and time for an early morning swim I was again speachless. The pure white sand and the crystal clear water so calm and relaxing. It was so nice just to float around in the calm surroundings. All this and the wildlife we've seen...Kangaroos, wombats, noisy colourful birds but we have no idea what they are.

Spent the rest of the morning on Cave Beach jumping in and out of the water just to cool down before heading back to the van and off to Bondai. Really not what we were hoping for!!! Spent hours trying to find a place to park and once achieved spent another good few hours trying to find a good spot for some nightlife which was rather more unsucessful. So back to the van for a short sleep as the heat was too much to handle and to this point where I come to you now right before I take a dip and then head into Sydney centre for the Mardi Gras this afternoon and then a short drive up the coast to Manly for the night. All good so far!!
